Episode 103: A conversation on exercise and the brain with one of the world's foremost experts on the subject, Dr. John Ratey

This week, I'm closing out Mental Health Awareness Month with an interview with one of the foremost experts in the field of exercise and its effect on the brain, Dr. John Ratey.

Dr. Ratey is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the author or co-author of nine books, included two of my favorites, "Spark" and "Go Wild." He has spent decades researching exercise and the ways our brains positively respond to it, even those suffering from conditions like ADD, ADHD, depression, and anxiety.

Dr. Ratey and I discuss how he got into studying exercise and the brain, what his years of research has uncovered, and most importantly, how exercise has benefitting him — and how it can benefit fathers — as he's gotten older and had children and grandchildren. You won't want to miss that!

You can find Spark (https://www.amazon.com/Spark-Revolutionary-Science-Exercise-Brain/dp/0316113514) and Go Wild (https://www.amazon.com/Go-Wild-Social-Evolutions-Well-being/dp/0316246107) on Amazon.
