This month’s Featured Fit Dad is Matthew, who found fitness and exercise at an early age as a way to keep up with his SIX brothers. Sheesh!

Now, as a dad, he finds new challenges in continually pushing his body while setting a good example for his daughter of what it means to dedicate yourself to achieving a goal.

Here is Matthew’s story:

When did you first get into fitness?

I've been into fitness for as long as I can remember. While growing up, I always saw my older brothers working out, so naturally I joined them. They started me out with basic things like pushups and pullups.  As the years went on it became another way to bond with each other. Always learning new/better techniques  and pushing each other to get bigger and stronger. Plus with 6 brothers you really don't want to be smallest one of the bunch lol.

What activities do you do to keep fit and active?

I hit the gym 3-5 times a week, and walk several miles a day at work. If I can't make it to the gym I do at home workouts. I've even done squats at work in between appointments just to stay active. Got some weird looks for that one lol. But you do what you have to do to reach your goals.

What is your favorite fitness memory or achievement?

When I got bigger and stronger than my older brother. He came to the gym with me one day and as we were working out he looked at me, then himself and said "your arms look bigger than mine... What the hell they are!!".. Then we hit bench press. If I remember right we were benching 250 pounds. He was doing sets of 8 while I was doing sets of 12 with the same weight. As one of the youngest siblings I was very proud of myself that day.

What is your favorite workout?

Any back workout. It has always been my genetic weakness growing a good back. So the challenge really drives me.

In what ways do you hope to influence your children through fitness?

I hope to show them that real dedication pays off.  It doesn’t matter if it's fitness, a hobby, or anything you do.  If you put your heart into it then you'll achieve what you were looking for.

What words of encouragement would you have for other dads out there who want to be healthy and fit?

If you've been thinking about a more healthier lifestyle. Just do it. No one ever said "I regret getting into shape."
