Roman - July 2017
This month's Featured Fit Dad is Roman Taijeron.
Funny enough, since completing his interview questionnaire for his feature, I have a feeling his favorite fitness memory has changed.
Because Roman earned his IFBB Pro Card at the beginning of this month! Perhaps it is perfect timing that in the month he earned his Pro Card, he's also the Featured Fit Dad of the Month. Earning his Pro Card is a story that I'm sure Roman's son, Nash, will hear about for years to come.
Roman is one inspiring dude and ripped as all get-out. This firefighter has figured out how to balance family, fitness and a grueling job.
Here is Roman's story:
When did you first get into fitness?
13 years old, my uncle bought me an old-school weight set. The old DP's that were cement filled plastic. I would do calisthenics with my uncle and my dad.
What activities do you do to keep fit and active?
1-2 times a week a little HIIT, 5-6 days a week of steady state cardio and conventional weight training (incorporating compound movements)
What is your favorite fitness memory or achievement?
Probably the 2016 Musclecontest CAL State Competition. It was my first ever Classic Physique Bodybuilding competition. I took a 2nd place in my division against a guy that went on to his next show to become an IFBB Pro.
What is your favorite workout?
I don't have a favorite workout per se, BUT I love to train legs. Squats, Deadlifts, Lunges...literally my "wheel" house.
In what ways do you hope to influence your children through fitness?
I really hope to set a physical example for my son and the rest of my children someday just through my actions. Nash already sees that Dad spends time in the kitchen cooking and meal prepping. As well as in the gym moving weights around. He is already so used to the workout/fitness environment. His mom is a personal trainer and nutritionist. He's been going to the gym since he was in his mama's womb. Probably explains why he is so active!!
What words of encouragement would you have for other dads out there who want to be healthy and fit?
You gotta have a goal...you must have the right plan (diet and fitness routine)...you have to be disciplined and put the work in because nobody is gonna do it for you....If fitness and Physique could be bought, everyone would be walking around peeled...you have to earn it!!! Let your kids see that hard work IS rewarded with results.
